Campaign Story

I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early 30’s. I never imagined that it would be such a long and difficult journey to parenthood. After being diagnosed with PCOS, and it felt like a whirlwind of emotions. This feels silly to say out loud now, but at the time, knowing I wasn’t able to ovulate and that I had excess “male hormones”, made me feel “less like a woman”. I read about some of the side effects like thinning hair, stroke, and infertility, and this made me fearful of my future. My primary care provider prescribed birth control pills and that this would regulate my periods and metformin. He stated that these medications would assist with period regulation and weight loss. Both my husband and I are very positive people and this has helped massively. Another thing that has helped is having great supportive family and colleagues that make navigating infertility less daunting. My husband and I have been together for 30 years. We are junior high school sweethearts. Our journey to parenthood has been very difficult and I’ve had multiple miscarriages via IUI’s. We are now trying to do IVF and this is why we are fundraising. This is our last change for us to become parents. We are still waiting for our happy ending.
